Wicking Raised Garden Beds

Wicking Raised Garden Beds are a smart and very easy way to conserve water in the garden. Wicking Raised Garden Beds are not new, in fact, people have been making these types of water saving garden beds for many years and in a hot climate like Perth, wicking garden beds are certainly one of the best ways to conserve water. There are so many ways to make a wicking raised garden bed, the methods we have chosen are called the ‘In ground' version and 'above ground' version. (video tutorial below for each version)

For your wicking garden bed to work properly, you must ensure that your water reservoir is a good 10 - 15 cm deep and the soil layer on top of the water reservoir is no more than 30 - 40 cm deep. The plant roots essentially ‘wick up’ the water from the water reservoir so you can see how the water reservoir and soil depth is extremely important.

Aquaplate colours available for Wicking Beds are Paperbark, Pale Eucalypt and Galvanised (silver), see Colorbond chart.
