Kingspan BioFicient A secondary treatment system (STS) formerly an aerobic treatment unit (ATU) in WA. The First Domestic STS System to Achieve Latest Australian Standard AS 1546.3:2017
Suitable for homes with up to 10 people the BioFicient®, a secondary treatment system (STS) formerly called an aerobic treatment unit (ATU) in WA, is manufactured from high quality Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) and uses the latest treatment technology to deliver a high quality of water discharge.
With a high performance, low power consumption treatment technology, coupled with minimal maintenance requirement, the Domestic BioFicient® wastewater treatment system will provide large homes with a reliable and effective solution for many years to come.
New to the market in WA, this system has a long history throughout the UK and Europe.
This system is quite unique with its large primary sedimentation chamber, its floating media in the aeration chamber (this is a moving bed bioreactor) and the ease at which the blower and control box can be located away from the tank. The access hatches are large and this allows easy servicing and any maintenance requirements.
The alarm system can be at the tank or in the house, and there is a range of risers for the lids so that these tanks can be buried deeper. The invert (inlet into system) can be 500 mm (standard), 700 mm or 1200 mm. In most installations the standard 500 mm would be sufficient. Rarely is there a need for a deeper tank.
The tank system is close to 6,000 L capacity, making it one of the largest in the marketplace.
As mentioned above, the tank itself is fibre re-inforced, so it doesn’t suffer from compression when in the ground. Should a high water table be a concern, the BioFicient can be concreted in and there are anchor points to embed the tank to a concrete base or ring as required.
Certified to the new Australian Standards AS1546.3:2017
All Domestic Wastewater Treatment Systems used in Australia must be fully tested and accredited.
The latest AS1546.3:2017 supersedes the outgoing 2008 standard and requires all products used, after December 2020, to hold the latest certification. The BioFicient Series 1 Wastewater Treatment Plant is the first product in the market to receive this certification.
In an accredited, independent testing facility, the BioFicient Series 1 was sampled on a daily and weekly basis for 34 weeks. During this time, the system was subjected to several stress tests to simulate use in an actual residential property. Australia has one of the most stringent process on the Planet to ensure the standard of effluent discharged to the environment is world leading.
Although the industry has 24 months to gain the latest certification, Kingspan believe that the latest technology should be available as soon as possible, hence their decision to invest in their new BioFicient and testing process to achieve the latest standard before any other manufacturer in the industry.
The BioFicient is serviced every three months (the Australian Standard)
At each service, water samples are taken and analysed, chlorine disinfection tablets are replaced, the blower operating pressure is adjusted, scum and sludge levels are determined in each chamber and a comprehensive report is provided for both the homeowner and the local Council (a legal requirement).
Water Installations, as a distributor of the BioFicient in WA, carries all spare parts and service materials.
